Cumberland County, New Jersey

Cumberland County is an undiscovered vacation destination located along the Delaware Bay in the south western part of New Jersey less than forty-five minutes from Atlantic City and Philadelphia. Visitors and vacationers have their choice of fishing, boating, bird watching, antique shopping, visiting glass making exhibits, exploring the wild and scenic Maurice River Watershed and much more!

A renaissance is taking place in Cumberland County, starting in Millville eight years ago the renovated downtown area is now known nationally as one of the Top Ten Arts Districts in the United States and a great place for artists to live, work and display their works. The Glasstown Arts District is a thriving Main Street Community filled with artists, galleries, and cultural attractions set beautifully along the banks of the Maurice River. On the third Friday of every month the galleries remain open late, the bars and restaurants feature live music, and visitors from all over come to the Arts District come to browse among the unique shops and dine at one of the many restaurants and cafes on High Street.

Want to spend a day in an older and grander era? The Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center is the best choice to see highly-skilled artists creating colorful works of art from molten glass using centuries-old techniques. The center has several exhibits and displays featuring the artistic and cultural traditions of southern New Jersey. While there, visit the glass museum and the museum stores or call ahead to schedule an appointment and try your own hand at glass beadmaking, shaping molten glass into beautiful paperweights or blow a bowl or vase.

East Point Light House Cumberland County NJThe East Point Lighthouse on the Maurice River in Cumberland County has played an important part in the maritime history of the area. The guiding light has shown fishermen, oystermen and boaters the way into the mouth of the Maurice River since 1849. Although numerous lighthouses once stood along the edge of the Delaware Bay, East Point is the last remaining lighthouse on the Jersey side and is the second oldest standing in New Jersey.

A work-in-progress, this website will feature dozens of interesting places and towns in Cumberland County to explore. Cumberland County offers the best “shunpiking” opportunities to be found as you find “undiscovered” towns and settlements over lightly traveled country roads.

The purpose of this website is to promote Cumberland County as a great choice for vacations and day trips.  Coming in October, the business directory section will feature a list of merchants, full webpage ads and descriptions of businesses, shops, restaurants and places to stay while visiting this area.
